The castor bean plant is a very hardy plant that requires almost no pesticides. It is grown in semi-arid areas on poor quality soil. Water consumption is relatively low. Thus, the plant does not compete with traditional food crops. It grows excellently without genetic manipulation of the seeds.

The castor oil obtained from the seeds is a non-fossil alternative for the production of polyamide polymers. The bio-based plastics thus make a valuable contribution to climate protection.
